Effect of Placement Techniques on the Marginal Adaptation of Class V Composite Restorations
Luis Guilherme Sensi, DDS, MS, PhD; Fabiano Carlos Marson, DDS, MS, PhD; Luiz Narciso Baratieri, DDS, MS, PhD; Sylvio Monteiro Junior, DDS, MS, PhD

This study evaluates the effect of different techniques of composite increment placement on the marginal adaptation of Class V restorations.

The Significance of Marginal Gap and Overextension Measurement in the Evaluation of the Fit of Complete Crowns
Arne F. Boeckler, DDS; Anke Stadler, DDS; Jürgen M. Setz, DDS, PhD

An important criterion for the success of a crown is marginal fit. However, in the patient’s mouth fit can only be evaluated by subjective methods.  This study describes the correlation between objective marginal fit and its subjective evaluation by dentists and dental technicians.

The Color Differences Between Different Thicknesses of Resin Veneered Over Amalgam
Yousra Hussain Al-Jazairy, BDS, Msc; Ahmed A. El-Hejazi, BDS, MSc, PhD

Composites and compomers are popular in dental practice.  However, little is known about their esthetic appearance as veneering restorative materials over amalgam restorations.  This in vitro study evaluates the color differences of composite and compomer restorative materials, placed in thicknesses of 1 mm and 2 mm over amalgam.

Alteration of Cyclic Nucleotides Levels and Oxidative Stress in Saliva of Human Subjects with Periodontitis
Fereshteh Mashayekhi, PharmD; Farzaneh Agha-hosseini, DDS; Ali Rezaie, MD; Mohammad J. Zamani, PharmD; Reza Khorasani, BSc; Mohammad Abdollahi, PharmD, PhD

The presence of oxidative stress and lower levels of salivary cGMP and cAMP in periodontitis are in association with disease severity.  Oxidative stress is a major contributor to the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases.  This study was conducted to evaluate salivary oxidative stress along with the cGMP and cAMP secondary messenger levels in periodontitis subjects.

Load-to-fracture Value of Different All-ceramic Crown Systems
Mark David Snyder, DDS; Kyle Douglas Hogg, DDS

This study investigates the potential difference in the load-to-fracture values of several all-ceramic crown systems.

Perceived Sources of Stress within a Dental Educational Environment
Wael Mousa Al-Omari, PhD

The aim of this study was to identify the perceived sources of stress among dental students, dental hygiene students, and dental technology students enrolled at the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST).

Oral Health Status in a Population of Nigerian Diabetics
Eyitope Ogunbodede, DDPH, RCS; Olawunmi Fatusi, FMCDS; Anthony Akintomide, FWACP; Kikelomo Kolawole, BChD; Adesuyi Ajayi, FWACP

While the oral manifestations of diabetes mellitus have been well documented, the effect of glycemic control on the oral tissues has not.  This article reports the oral health status of metabolically controlled adult diabetic patients assessed over six months compared with non-diabetics acting as controls.

This study examines the prevalence and distribution of decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) and enamel hypoplasia in 12-year old students in junior high school in Iran.

Physical Properties of Four Acrylic Denture Base Resins
Thomas R. Meng, Jr, DDS; Mark A. Latta, DMD, MS

Resistance to impact fracture and high flexural strength are desirable properties of denture base acrylics.  The purpose of this laboratory study was to determine the Izod impact strength, the flexural strength, the flexural modulus, and the yield distance for four premium denture resins.

Sudeshni Naidoo, BDS, LDS.RCS, MDPH, DDPH.RCS, MChD, PhD; Usuf Chikte, BChD, MSc, DHSM, MDent; Ria Laubscher, BComm; Carl Lombard, PhD

The purpose of this study was to analyze the anthropometric measures and oral health status of children with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) and compare them to matched controls.

Effects of Nd:  YAG Laser Irradiation on the Adaptation of Composite Resins to Root Dentin
Güliz Görgül, BDS, PhD; Bagdagül H. Kivanç, BDS; Murat Maden, DDS, PhD; Özgür Ilke Atasoy Ulusoy, BDS; A. Cemal Tinaz, BDS, PhD

One of the most important goals in the restoration of endodontically treated teeth with a composite resin post system is to achieve good adaptation of the composite material to dentin walls to prevent microleakage apically and coronally.  In post core systems, to avoid microleakage between the dentin wall and resin material, laser irradiation may seem to be an alternative therapy for increasing adaptation quality.  This study investigated the adaptation of a packable composite resin to lased root canal dentin when it was used as post material.
